This is a version of the classic route heading west from downtown Denver to downtown Golden and riding back.
This ride covers a lot of Denver and allows riders to go from residential areas to recreational trails, and out to Golden. I headed out at 10 AM, and it was pretty hot (mid-June)! Earlier is better! There isn't much shade on the way there, but it's much nicer and cooler on the way back on the Clear Creek trail. You'll pass the scenic Sloan's lake in Denver, bike past the Coor's brewery, bike on the Cherry Creek, Clear Creek, and Sand Creek Greenway trails, and between North and South Table Mountain in Golden. If you've got a sweet tooth, you can stop by Golden Sweets on Washington Avenue in Golden for some ice cream. Otherwise, there are restaurants and coffee shops to eat or grab snacks in.
The surfaces are all paved trails or streets with decent shoulders/bike lanes. There are several gas stations throughout the ride, and of course, you can fill up while in Golden. There will be some decent climbing as you gain elevation to Golden, but the ride back is generally downhill. This is a fun ride for anyone and a great route for anyone hoping to do their first ~half-century ride with moderate climbing (for less experienced riders).
